One of the things I do in my spare time is build model cars. Not the most exciting of hobbies by any means, and not really any cheaper than the pub or cinema, but a very peaceful way to pass time.
Here are some of my recent creations.

Zele Nissan GT-R SpecV
Okay, I know – or at least I think – Zele haven’t done a SpecV GT-R, but I wanted to build a GT-R kit in Zele colours and I also wanted to convert a model to SpecV trim. Basically, it’s a Zele-style Nissan GT-R with the SpecV upgrades. By Zele-style, what I mean is the spectacularly cool orange paintjob they’ve put on a few GT-Rs and not any of the more extreme modifications they do. It’s based on a Tamiya kit of a standard GT-R, so being the obsessive nerd that I am with such things a few alterations were required to transform it into the SpecV – the rear seats had to be cut out and replaced with netting, titanium exhausts had to be fashioned, five-spoke Aoshima alloys had to be purchased and a ‘SpecV’ badge had to be made by carefully trimming a space ‘V-Spec’ decal from an old R34 kit. Nerdy, I know, but well worth it…

Mazda RX-7
Near to the place I usually stay in Tokyo is this stunning first-generation Mazda RX-7.
Unable to buy it and bring it back to the UK, I did the two next-best things – buy it in a computer game and make a model of it. The kit was a strange little thing that came off eBay from Hong Kong, and with the addition of a set of larger-scale Mini wheels designed for a radio-controlled car a pretty decent match was created.
